Professor Keith Moffatt Awarded the 2009 David Crighton Medal
Professor Keith Moffatt FRS has been awarded the 2009 David Crighton Medal by the London Mathematical Society and the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (the two principal mathematical societies in the UK) in recognition of his contributions to fluid dynamics and mathematical modelling and for his leadership in many positions in UK and international mathematical organisations. The David Crighton Medal is awarded triennially (for the first time in 2003) to a UK mathematician for services both to mathematics and to the mathematical community.
Keith Moffatt was Head of DAMTP from 1983 to 1991 and was succeeded by David Crighton who was Head until his death in 2000. David Crighton was a President of the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications and was President-elect of the London Mathematical Society at the time of his death.
