Hosts menu

hosts Selecting a host from one of the sub-menus will start up a session on that host. This may be done using slog (a local terminal running an ssh to the host), or by using xon or similar.

The Departmental entries at the top list hosts which any member of the department may use (so called public machines -- even though many of them are not in public places any more).

The Group menus show hosts which only those who are part of that group (or who have special permission), may use.

Note that some of these lists are very long, the order was randomised to encourage people not to all choose the same hosts!

The lists of hosts is currently only updated occasionally, so may include hosts which no longer exist, or be missing new ones. You can of course simply run:

    slog mynewhost

or

    xon mynewhost

in an xterm window to log into a host (mynewhost in this case).

Which method is used will probably change over the next few months as we move more systems to only supporting ssh for remote logins.
