Linux : Two Screens / Dual Head

Some computers on the DAMTP UNIX system can drive two screens. Currently (22/09/2010) some Linux computers that have graphics cards with an NVIDIA chipset and VGA/DVI outputs can drive two screens.

If using gnome the nvidia-settings GUI can be run from: top-left of screen -> Applications -> System tools -> Nvidia Server Settings, or with the command nvidia-settings &.

Then 2nd item down on lhs menu "X Server Display Configuration". Select the (Disabled) screen, click "Configure", select "TwinView", click "Apply".

Note: these settings will not be remembered by the computer between logout/login. To have the change made permanent please contact help@damtp.
