Changing Shell
By default, damtp users are set up to use the bash shell.
Other shells which are available to you:
- /bin/sh
- /bin/csh
- /usr/local/bin/bash
- /usr/local/bin/tcsh
If you change to using another shell and we change the way the system is setup then you will have to implement that change yourself. Changes are announced in the motd secation on the internal home page.
You can try out another shell by typing in its name. If you decide you want to keep that shell permanently then you will need to tell the system this. Do this by running the command
chsh
This command will first ask you for your password and then ask you which shell you would like to change to. Make sure that you type in the full name of the shell or the system may not be able to find it and you will not be able to log in. ie /usr/bin/csh and not csh
