How to add tables and font formatting in Thunderbird

By default, Thunderbird has been setup for you so that you write plain text emails. This is the best option to use as some of your recipients may not be able to read anything but text emails. If you start sending them fancy emails with lots of text formatting, they may object profusely.

There might be the occasion when you have to send more elaborate emails, in this case you need to change your settings so that you send HTML formated messages. The following explains how to make this change.

Open Thunderbird and from the Tools menu choose Account Options. From the list on items on the left of the new window, choose Composition and Addressing. Tick the box that says Compose messages in HTML format. Press the OK button, you are now ready to write HTML emails. To revert back to sending plain text emails, simply open the account settings again and un-tick the Compose messages in HTML format option.
