How to write to a 'Read Only' file
You may be editing a file and try and save it and a window will appear saying that the file is 'Read Only'. To make it so that you can write to the file, you need to change some permissions on it before you can save the edited version. You don't need to close the file down and loose your work, just open up My Computer or Windows Explorer, locate the file and right click it. Choose the Properties option.

You'll see a window similar to the above, the only part you'll be interested in is the box with the tick in next to the words Read-only. As long as you have the right security permissions, you'll be able to un-tick the box and OK the window. If you don't have the right security permissions then you'll be told so when you try to change the tick box.
Once you've made the change, the file is writable. You can go back into your document and save it.
