Obtaining A DAMTP Windows Account

All new staff and research students are given a Unix account when they join the department. You may need to ask for a Windows account in addition to your Unix account if you want to work with Windows applications. Before asking for an account, make sure that you have looked through the Unix software list to see if you can achieve what you need to do with Unix tools. A good example of this would be OpenOffice, used to read and create .doc files, ideal for users that receive MS Word email attachments but only work in Unix.

If you can't find a Unix tool then email help@damtp.cam.ac.uk asking for a Windows account and say what Windows application(s) you need to use. Check the current list of what software is installed on 'default' Windows pcs first; we may not be able to install it, or may need to purchase it if there is a strong enough case to do so.
