Zip and Un-Zip Files
Installed as default on the DAMTP Windows pcs is a program called ZipCentral. This will open and create new .zip files. Any other compression extensions, e.g. bzip or gz will require Unix tools, access via Exceed. To open a zip file from My Computer or Windows Explorer, simply double click it, ZipCentral will open and display the contents of the zip file. To extract the contents to your local drive or a network drive, click the 'Extract' button, specify where you want the files extracted to and press 'OK'.

The extracted files can now read from wherever they were extracted to, edited, deleted etc.
To create a new zip file, select the files/files and folders you want to copy into a zip file, right click over the selection and choose the 'Add to Zip' option.

ZipCentral will then ask for a name of the new zip file and its location.

It will then ask you to set some settings. Tick the 'Include Subfolders' option and change the 'Folder Names:' to show Save full path

ZipCentral will then create the zip file once you've pressed the 'OK' button. Once complete, it will display the files in the zip file along with information like compression ratio.

That completes the creation of a new zip file. ZipCentral can now be closed if finished with.
