Connect to Server, "Mounting" smb/ssh File-systems, PWF file-space

To connect to/view file-systems on other computers (from DAMTP UNIX computers) you can use the "connect to server" functionality of nautilus. If you are using the Gnome Desktop then

From menu bar: Places; Connect to server
Screenshot, below:

If you are not using Gnome then to start nautlius use:

nautilus --no-desktop computer:/
File -> connect to server

Connect to PWF Linux

Service type: ssh
Server: linux.pwf.cam.ac.uk
Folder: /home/${CRSID}
User Name: ${CRSID}

Alternatively you can use the command line:

nautilus --no-desktop ssh://sftp.pwf.cam.ac.uk/home/${CRSID}
or
nautilus --no-desktop ssh://linux.pwf.cam.ac.uk/home/${CRSID}

Further details for remotely connecting to PWF Linux: sftp/ssh/scp, Windows (SMB/CIFS) and Mac (AFP).

There are screenshots, below, for connecting to PWF linux from the gnome desktop or nautilus.

Connect to a Lab Windows Computer

Service type: Windows share
Server: (Name of machine you want to connect to)
User Name: (user-id)
Domain Name: lab

Connect to a Windows Share on the DAMTP Samba server (winsam)

Note: this is an academic example as the DAMTP Samba server provides your home directory which is naturally available on the DAMTP UNIX system.

File -> connect to server -> smb -> winsam.damtp.cam.ac.uk
You will then be prompted for:
Service Type = Windows Share
Server = winsam.damtp.cam.ac.uk
Share = userID (probably your ${CRSID})
Folder = blank
Domain Name = DAMTPDOM

You will then be prompted for your password.
Hopefully you know your DAMTP Windows password.
