Email contact addresses/auto replies

While you are here in the department your @cam address, @hermes address and @damtp addresses all seem like the same address. Regardless of which someone emails, you pick up the email via Hermes.

Shortly after you leave the university the University Computing Service (UCS) will email you to give you advance warning, (typically about a month) of your UCS accounts closing, including email. Once they close your email account, none of the addresses mentioned above will operate.

You can set up a contact address before your leave for your @cam address and for your @damtp addresses. As the first is ran by the UCS and the second facility by the department there are different methods for both.

When you have a contact address set up whenever someone emails your address they receive an email back telling them of your new address.

How to set a contact address for your @cam addresses

  • Your contact address will go live when your @cam address is cancelled.
  • Avoid using a temporary address. The UCS do not have a means of changing your @cam contact address once your Raven login is cancelled.

How to set a contact address for your @damtp addresses

  • Fill in the Raven protected form - https://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/userforms/newaddress.
  • Your contact address will go live overnight.
  • If you wish to change or remove it fill in the form again.
  • Try to choose an address that will stay alive for a long time.
  • Contact itaccounts@damtp.cam.ac.uk if you have any difficulties.

How to change or set your DAMTP contact address after your Raven login is cancelled

  • Contact a member of DAMTP staff who personally knew you. They in turn can ask their group/pavilion secretary or a computer officer to update your entry.
  • You may be asked to prove who you are.
  • If we are not satisified you are who you say you are, we regret that we cannot amend your contact address. This safeguard is necessary to prevent malicous people claiming your email.

3. @hermes addresses

There is currently no contact address / auto reply service available for @hermes. If you've given this address out to people you need to contact them and tell them your new address yourself.
