These are links to manuals that are available online. man ${command} on the
UNIX computers will usually help.
- a2ps - format files for printing on a PostScript printer.
- eplain - is a TeX macro package which expands on and extends the definitions in plain TeX. Unlike LaTeX it provides macros which are intended to be useful without imposing a structure on the layout.
- exim - is a mail transport agent (MTA) used to deliver users' mail. This is currently the version used in damtp. The documentation also contains details about the exim filter language which will be of interest to those writing their own
.forwardfiles to deliver mail to different folders or drop mail from certain senders etc. - latex2e - is for typesetting documents (including maths). This is an overview of generic LaTeX features (not particular classes), but is no substitute for a book like The LaTeX Companion or LaTeX: A Document Preparation System. Also note that there is a LaTeX course run by the Computing Service.
- latex2html - is a conversion tool that allows documents written in LaTeX to become part of the WorldWide Web. It replicates the basic structure of a LaTeX document as a set of interconnected HTML files which can be explored using automatically generated navigation panels.
- mathematica - is a symbolic manipulation package.
- Matlab - is a high-performance language for technical computing.

- tar - is a program to manipulate archives of many files
- tth - TTH Converts a subset of TeX into HTML for web pages
- xv - is an interactive image manipulation program for the X Window System. It can operate on images in many formats, convert formats grab regions and allows editing/cropping and colour alterations etc.
