1718) 18/12/12  Adobe Flash plugin on Linux [IMPORTANT]

SUMMARY: The Adobe flash-plugin used on Linux (for firefox on sl5) has been updated to the updated 11.2.202.258 version to correct a number of security problems.

All browsers will need to be restarted to ensure that they pick up the new version but no reboots are needed. Adobe have produced advisories which describe this as a critical update:

Any browsers will need to be restarted to ensure that they pick up the new version but no reboots are needed.

Point a browser at http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to confirm that the flash plugin is correctly installed and the right version is being used. That web page should report the flash-plugin version installed as 11.2.202.258

Those who use laptops etc which are self-managed should ensure that the latest updates are installed and any browsers restarted.

The path /opt/flash-native/latest/ can now be used to access the latest version of flash11 for the system (64-bit or 32-bit), while /opt/flash-32bit/latest/ always points to the 32-bit version. /opt/flash now points at the latter.

Those who install their own web-browsers on DAMTP Linux machines should ensure that any flash plugins point to a current version. Please ask if you don't know what that means.
