Transfering files from DAMTP
This document explains how to access your damtp files from outside of damtp in order to view or copy them to your remote location.
If the computer you are using is running...
Windows:
- Use WinSCP.
- Use a SSH-Tunnel.
Linux or Unix:
- Use sftp to any damtp host you have access to including the host ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk.
- Use scp to any damtp host you have access to including the host ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk.
- Transfer a tar archive from damtp to a remote system. To do this:
- Create a directory to put the files in on the remote system. In this example we are persuming its called newhome and that that path to newhome is /home/u1/
- From a damtp host running linux eg (ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk) which you have access to run
tar −cpf − . | ssh username@remotesystem ’cd /home/u1/newhome; tar −xpf −’
- You will be prompted for your password on the remote system.
MacosX:
- Use MacSFTP to connect ton any damtp hostname you have access to (including ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk).
- Open a Terminal or X-Term window and use the sftp or scp commands described under linux or unix.
