Transfering files from DAMTP

This document explains how to access your damtp files from outside of damtp in order to view or copy them to your remote location.

If the computer you are using is running...

Windows:

Linux or Unix:

  • Use sftp to any damtp host you have access to including the host ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk.
  • Use scp to any damtp host you have access to including the host ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk.
  • Transfer a tar archive from damtp to a remote system. To do this:
    • Create a directory to put the files in on the remote system. In this example we are persuming its called newhome and that that path to newhome is /home/u1/
    • From a damtp host running linux eg (ssh.damtp.cam.ac.uk) which you have access to run

      tar −cpf − . | ssh username@remotesystem ’cd /home/u1/newhome; tar −xpf −’
    • You will be prompted for your password on the remote system.
