FTP
For security reasons FTP is not allowed to most damtp computers. We run an anonymous ftp server on ftp.damtp.cam.ac.uk but that does not permit access to home directories etc.
To access your home directory you must use a client which makes use of the secure shell protocol.
Using ssh will encrypt your username and password (and all data) as it travels over the network and prevent others from being able to capture it in transit - which could then be used to gain access to your files and also attempt to compromise the security of machines on our network.
