Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

The Department:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) is a large department with around 50 academic staff, 100 contract research staff and a team of 25 Professional Services staff. DAMTP sits in the Maths Faculty with the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS) and some professional service operations are shared across both departments. We are very pleased to be expanding our Professional Support Staff team with this new role and are currently advertising two further roles (HR Administrator and Finance Coordinator).

The Role:

In this new and exciting role, you will deliver administrative support for our Business and Operations Manager (BOM) within DAMTP, by undertaking duties of an administrative nature and providing secretarial support including diary management, organising meetings, keeping, maintaining and disseminating up-to-date information, acting as the Department's Key Contact for the University Card Office, and other duties within the Department under the supervision of the BOM.

You will provide administrative support for key HR functions that fall within the remit of the BOM including, but not limited to, supporting academic recruitment, academic promotion, researcher promotions and researcher/professional services staff contribution reward scheme.

You will provide administrative support for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives within the Maths Faculty. This will include servicing the Faculty EDI Committee, providing support for Athena SWAN submissions and communication with staff and students about EDI initiatives.

About you:

The ideal candidate for this role will join us with:

  • A proven track record of providing administrative support in a PA role and/or HR administration and event organisation.

  • Excellent IT, organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise your own workload and deal with people at all levels.
