The van der Schaar Lab (https://www.vanderschaar-lab.com/) is a world-leading research group developing cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies with the aim of driving a revolution in healthcare and other areas important to society and human progress. The Lab is looking for a talented and passionate individual to communicate its research through a combination of strategic thinking, targeted engagement, and compelling content creation.
As the Lab's Communications Manager, you will work closely with Professor Mihaela van der Schaar and the research team to develop and implement a multi-channel communications strategy to drive visibility and engagement among several target audiences.
Having identified opportunities to showcase the Lab's research, you will create high-quality written and visual content explaining the value, novelty, and impact of the Lab's world-leading research. You will also plan, produce, and host sessions of the Lab's two regular online engagement series: "Inspiration Exchange" (for machine learning and AI students and professionals) and "Revolutionizing Healthcare" (for practising clinicians). Both series aim to create interdisciplinary communities and share insights and ideas around machine learning for healthcare and beyond. For further information, visit: https://www.vanderschaar-lab.com/engagement-sessions/
You will be given oversight over a wide range of platforms, including the lab's website, social media platforms, mailing lists, and YouTube channel. You will also work to build strong and productive relationships with the lab's internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funding partners, and clinicians.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience:
- in a similar role (at least three years)
- developing and executing a multi-channel communications strategy,
- marketing technically complex subjects to non-technical as well as to technically-expert audiences
- building audiences through creative and effective lead generation and conversion
- developing thought-leadership campaigns
- creating high-quality and engaging content in text, audio and video formats
- marketing to several distinct audience groups simultaneously
- using social media to achieve impact sustainably but also responsibly
- developing PR campaigns
- producing, and preferably hosting, zoom (or equivalent) webinars
- managing a website (ideally using WordPress)
- using analytics to identify marketing opportunities, set quantitative goals and measure progress
The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of artificial internet and/or experience in healthcare.
The Lab is dynamic and fast-paced so the successful candidate will be too. Because the Lab's research spans many areas of machine learning as well as many aspects of healthcare and other domains, the ability to multi-task and to deliver to tight deadlines is essential. There is much scope for initiative and creativity, so we will be looking for those characteristics as well.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a difference and to learn. The difference you will make comes from being a crucial member of a team dedicated to expanding the capabilities of machine learning for the benefit of mankind. The learning comes from being at the heart of a collaborative AI research team led by Professor van der Schar who all want to share their knowledge with you. Andrew Rashbass, the former CEO of The Economist Group, Reuters, and most recently, Euromoney Intitutional Investor PLC, who is now a member of the Lab, will also act as your mentor.
