Three-Dimensional Intensity Plot

Three-Dimensional Intensity Plot

The purpose of this option is to take the intensity field within a user-specified window and transform it into a 3D surface plot using a wire frame model (with or without hidden surface removal).

Use intensities from which buffer ?

This entry specifies the buffer containing the intensities to be used.

Intensities from Window or Screen ?

The intensities to be plotted may be obtained from either a window or the whole screen.

Window Specification: Region containing intensities If a window is chosen, then sections of the image falling outside the window will be ignored. Control over the window selection is in the normal DigImage manner. Further details are available from [H Help] within the window selection menu.

Plot surface on which buffer (-1 for computer monitor) ?

This entry determines where the surface is to be plotted. If a frame grabber buffer is selected, then the contents of that buffer will be lost. The surface may be plotted on the computer monitor by specifying -1.

Surface type

0 Wire frame with white (255) lines 1 Wire frame with lines coloured by intensity 2 Hidden line removal with white (255) lines 3 Hidden line removal with lines coloured by intensity 4 Surface coloured by intensity 5 Surface shaded by orientation

This menu determines the method of rendering the surface. The options are self-explanatory.

Name of output data file (blank to suppress; .DAT default extension) ?

If desired, DigImage can save the data and the DigiPlot plot file used to produce the 3D surface representation of the intensity. Specifying a file name at this prompt will save the data. If you do not wish to save the data, enter a blank line.

{If data file name given}

Name of plot file controlling data (blank to suppress; .PLT default extension) ?

This prompt is produced only if a data file name was specified at the previous entry. You should specify a name for the controlling DigiPlot plot file here if you wish to subsequently plot the data with DigiPlot. If you do not wish to create a controlling plot file, enter a blank line.

Step size across the window ?

The intensities are sampled at the number of points across the width of the window specified by this entry. Typically it will not be desirable to use too many points due to the time required and the size of the plot file generated. There is a maximum of 128 points possible. This entry specifies the spacing between the sample points.

Step size up the window ?

The intensities are sampled at the number of points spanning the height of the window specified by this entry. Typically it will not be desirable to use too many points due to the time required and the size of the plot file generated. There is a maximum of 128 points possible. This entry specifies the spacing between the sample points.

Filter size in horizontal (0 for no filter) ?

Typically it will be desirable to do a low pass filter operation on the image prior to sampling it, especially if not every pixel is being sampled. This entry specifies the horizontal size of the filter kernal. The filter used is a simple low pass convolution filter. The filter may be turned off by specifying a size of zero.

Filter size in vertical (0 for no filter) ?

Typically it will be desirable to do a low pass filter operation on the image prior to sampling it, especially if not every pixel is being sampled. This entry specifies the vertical size of the filter kernal. The filter used is a simple low pass convolution filter. The filter may be turned off by specifying a size of zero.

Name of PostScript file (blank to suppress) ?

The 3D surface may be rendered as a PostScript file. If you do not wish this, specify a blank name.

{If PostScript file specified} Default, Line, Greyscale or Colour printing ? DigImage is able to produce either grey-scale or colour PostScript files. The Default option is controlled by the setting in the Configur.EXE utility. If colour is selected, then the file MUST be printed on a level 2 (or higher) PostScript printer.

Default Colour type specified in Configur.EXE
Line Greyscale images and dashed line types
Greyscale Greyscale images and greyscale lines
Colour Colour images and colour lines - requires
                                Level 2 PostScript
