Plots and Screen Dumps

Plots and Screen Dumps

The Plots and Screen Dumps subsystem allows the creation of on screen plots and hard copies of a buffer through the creation of a PostScript file describing the buffer.

C Plot data at cursor.

This option provides a fully interactive method of plotting data and adding text to an image in a buffer. An option also exists for taking plotting commands from a file using a special format.

D Dump the screen to PostScript file.

This option creates a PostScript description of the selected screen buffer and writes it to a file for subsequent tranmission to a PostScript printer (through some suitable communication program such as Kermit).

E Erase a buffer.

This clears the contents of a specified buffer. The action is identical to [;GE Erase buffer] in the Grab/Display submenu.

I Alter the intensity range.

This option enables the intensity range of a buffer to be rescaled in such a way as to make to most use of the available gray scale when producing screen dumps. The rescaling is based on a user specified window, but is applied to the entire screen. A saturation factor is specified by the user to indicate if loss of detail at the extremes is acceptable (this will enable a better use of the available contrast).

P Dump the screen to PaintJet printer file.

This option creates a file suitable for printing on a PaintJet colour ink jet printer. The file must subsequently be printed using the PrintJet or similar utility. Note that the standard MS-DOS PRINT command is not suitable as it strips out some character sequences which corrupts the file.

R Ordered dithering of image.

This option is included partly for its novelty value. The purpose behind dithering is to give the appearance of a continuous gradation of intensity and/or colour when only a limited range of intensities/colours are infact available. This option reduces a full coloured image to one containing only red, green, blue, black and white. Clearly this results in a reduction in the image quality and resolution.
