Save Buffer To File

Save Buffer To File

May be used to save as DigImage .PIC (raw or compressed), .TIF, .GIF and .BMP. For .TIF, .GIF and .BMP, the number of pixels is preserved rather than the aspect ratio. To preserve the aspect ratio for .BMP, use [C Save Windows BMP file] or [G Save as GIF image]. To save a window rather than the whole buffer use [W Write window to file].

Save which buffer ?

Any valid buffer can be saved to a file. The selected buffer will be made the current output buffer.

Name of file to write image to ?

The name of the file (and optionally the path) to save the image to must be specified. If no extension is specified, then .PIC will be assumed. If an extension is specified, then the image will be saved in the appropriate format as follows:

.PIC DigImage raw or compressed .TIF 8-bit uncompressed; preserves number of pixels .GIF 8-bit (compressed); preserves number of pixels .BMP 8-bit (uncompressed); preserves number of pixels

To preserve the aspect ratio for .GIF and .BMP files, use [G Save as .GIF image] or [C Save window to .BMP file].

Use compacting ?

If yes (<Y>), then DigImage will use its bit plane adaptive run length encoding system to dramatically reduce the amount of disc storage required to store the image. If no (<N>), then the image will be saved using a raw byte stream format. For .TIF and .BMP files, only <N> is available, while for .GIF, only <Y> may be used.

Number of bits (8 for all) ?

This prompt will be given only if compacting has been requested. It specifies the number of bit planes to be used to save the image. For example, if a value of 4 is specified, then the four most significant bit planes (bits 7, 6, 5 and 4) will be saved. Information on the remaining four bit planes will not be saved.
