Record Buffers on Tape

Record Buffers on Tape

This option allows the images contained in a sequence of buffers to be recorded on video tape. The duration on the video tape of each buffer may be as short as two fields (one complete frame), or any multiple there of. At present an upper limit of 1s has been imposed.

To make use of this facility, the video output signal from the frame grabber must be connected to the VTR in some manner. A monochrome signal may be obtained by directly connecting any one of the three RGB leads. To produce high quality colour output, a RGB to Y/C (SVHS), RGB to PAL or RGB to NTSC encoder should be used. In the absence of such an encoder when a colour "film" is required, a colour video camera may be used to record the image on the frame grabber's monitor, but this will yield lower resolution and poorer colours.

Record how may buffers ?

If N buffers are specified, then buffer 1 will be recorded first, buffer 2 second and so on up to buffer N. Offboard buffers will be displayed using buffer 0. On completion, buffer N will be left as the current output buffer.

Record each buffer for how long ?

The recording process proceeds by recording two fields (one complete video frame) at a time. This entry specifies the length of time the process is to continue for. The normal time syntax is appropriate, with ::fields specifying the time in units of the video field rate.

Note that the final buffer will be recorded for four more fields than specified by this entry. This is essential as with each successive record operation overlaps the previous one by four fields and so erases the contents of those fields.
