I am a member of the Institute of Theoretical Geophysics research
group at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical
Physics, where I am supervised by Prof. Herbert Huppert. I am a visiting student at the Centre for Water Research at
the University of Western Australia, where I am supervised by Prof. Jorg
Imberger. I also work closely with my former employer, the engineering consultancy Arup, who provide a commercial perspective to
my work.
I am a keen musician; I play an eclectic range of music on the piano and violin. I also like adventures.
Please email if you have any comments.
My current research interests are in environmental fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, buoyancy effects in fluids, building physics and flows in lakes and reservoirs.
My PhD topic is "Flows through lakes and reservoirs". I am developing understanding of the path taken by rivers as they flow through lakes and reservoirs. Understanding these phenomena are important so that water resource designers and managers can succesfully look after our drinking water sources, and other important parts of our environment. I use lab experiments (such as the one pictured below) and field measurments to develop and validate mathematics describing these important flows.
