A major FoCM activity are the FoCM conferences, which
are held once in two-three years in different corners of the globe. Indeed,
historically FoCM started its existence as an outcome of such a
conference!
FoCM conferences follow a set pattern: mornings are devoted to
plenary talks, while in the afternoon the conference divides into a
number of workshops, each devoted to a different theme within the
broad theme of foundations of computational mathematics. This
structure allows for a very high standard of presentation, while
affording endless opportunities for cross-fertilization and
communication across subject boundaries.

The next FoCM conference will
be held in Summer 2002. At
the moment we are investigating possible venues and calling for
proposals. Although we are open minded as to the geographic
location, there is a definite body of opinion to the effect
that this is North America's turn again (after Brazil and UK).

We expect to announce the venue and the likely time of the next
FoCM conference by the end of
March 2000.
