I am a member of the Board of Directors of Society for Foundations of Computational Mathematics.

FoCM is a an organisation committed to explore the mathematical foundations of scientific computing, both numerical and non-numerical. Thus, from computational number theory and symbolic algebra all the way to numerical analysis of differential equations. As long as a subject requires computation and calls for honest, serious and beautiful mathematics, we are interested! Within little more than a decade, FoCM has established itself as the major forum of scholarly interaction at the seam-line between mathematics and computation.

FoCM activities so far have included triennial conferences (Park City, Utah; Rio de Janeiro, Oxford, Minneapolis, Santander, Hong Kong, Budapest) and special semesters at Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (Berkeley, California), City University of Hong Kong and the Fields Institute, Toronto. The journal Foundations of Computational Mathematics (published by Springer-Verlag: the first issue has appeared in January 2001) is truly one of top mathematical journals.
