Two applications to South Cambridgeshire District Council for permission to build houses in the gardens of 114 and 116 Barton Road have been rejected. These houses, which are in Coton Parish, have gardens that run down to the Bin Brook behind numbers 37 to 43 Gough Way.

There were several reasons for the refusal, among them:

``The site is within the recorded floodplain of the Bin Brook, a Statutory main River as defined by the Water resources Act 1991, and was recently subject to flooding. In the absence of a flood risk assessment to prove otherwise; it is considered the proposed development would be at risk of flooding and would increase the risk of flooding to existing property.''
