Professor Simon Tavaré FRS, FMedSci

In July 2018 I joined Columbia University in the City of New York, as Herbert and Florence Irving Director of the Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics (IICD) and a professor in the departments of Statistics and Biological Sciences. The IICD will be supporting a number of endowed chairs for scientists engaged in both quantitative and technological aspects of cancer research.

I am a member of the Data Science Institute and a Full Member of the Cancer Genomics and Epigenomics Program, Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. I also serve as a Senior Associate Core Member of the  New York Genome Center.

A major theme of my research is the development of statistical and stochastic methods for understanding  tumor heterogeneity and cancer evolution. We are part of the IMAXT CRUK Grand Challenge consortium, developing methods to study solid tumours in 3.5D.
