The afternoon starts with a 3-minute presentation from each university in our main lecture theatre (with at most one pdf/powerpoint slide) to talk about why their university is a great place to do a PhD.
The main focus of the event is the question session that follows, which takes place in our cafeteria over coffee, tea and biscuits. Each institution's team is assigned a table where Part III students can have an informal chat and get answers to questions.
After the event, we will treat your team to dinner, if they are available.
Each university is welcome to send up to three PhD student representatives spread between pure, applied, statistics and theoretical physics. If you have reason to send an extra student, e.g. representing a CDT shared between multiple universities, please get in touch and we will try to accommodate you.
Your representatives would ideally, but not necessarily,

Once you have selected the students who will be attending, please email us their name and email address, and have each student fill out the form below by Wednesday 26th October:
Whether or not you plan to send students, we would be grateful if you could send us links to your
We will collate the information on a webpage made available to the Part III students before the event.

Enter through the east gatehouse and go across the courtyard into the main building. The central core is behind the spiral stairs. MR2 is down the stairs and then behind you.
We'll be in the central core to meet you as you arrive and show you to your tables. There's a café selling snacks and sandwiches in case you arrive early or hungry.
You have up to 3 minutes per university on stage in our main lecture theatre to say why your university is a great place for doing a PhD. Please coordinate with any other presenters from your university to decide whether to present together, one person alone, or one after the other — as long as you stay within the 3 minutes total.
You can put up a single slide on the projector; we recommend that this includes a list of the maths-related research areas at your university. Please email it to us by Monday 31st October (in PDF or PPT format), so that we can set it up beforehand.
We will record the presentations and make the videos and slides available to the Part III students. You can opt out of this via the sign-up form beforehand or by emailing us after the presentations.
Each university will have a 1m×1m table where the Part III students can find you and ask questions.
E.g. How do I apply? How many PhD students do research in area X? Do you have many seminars in topic Y? What is supervisor Z like to work with? Do the PhD students usually collaborate or each do their own thing? What is there to do in your spare time in town W?
Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available.
If you want to put up a poster, let us know and we'll make sure there's a poster board to pin it to.
If the Part III students run out of questions then we'll pack up and head to dinner early.
We will go out for a casual dinner at a restaurant courtesy of DPMMS/DAMTP, if you can make it!
