Yuri Dumaresq Sobral

I am a PhD student at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, one of the two departments of the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Cambridge.  I work under the supervision of Prof. E.J. Hinch, trying to understand instabilities in fluidised beds. I am a member of  Churchill College and I am fully supported by the Ministry of Education of Brazil, through the agency CAPES. You can find me at yurisobral (at) hotmail.com .

Previously, I took my B.Sc. (1996-2001) and M.Sc. (2002-2004) at the Universidade de Brasília, under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Ricardo da Cunha, the coordinator of the Vortex Group. In 1999, I was approved on a national examination process to take part in the Integrated Brazilian-French Program for Scientific Areas, also sponsored by CAPES, and I had the opportunity to spend one year of my undergraduate course at the École Centrale de Lyon.

I am currently a member of the SBMAC - Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics (since 2000) and of the SBM - Brazilian Society of Mathematics (since 2004). Here in Cambridge I am a member of the Churchill College Phoenix Society and of the Churchill College Middle Common Room.
