Research

Adrien is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. He is part of the Environmental and Industrial Fluid Dynamics research group and works in the G. K. Batchelor Laboratory. His current research focuses on the stratified shear flows taking place in an inclined duct connecting two reservoirs containing fluids at different densities. He is mainly interested in elucidating the stability, nonlinear waves, turbulent transition and mixing of such flows, with applications to ocean dynamics. He is part a larger team effort in DAMTP that combines large datasets from laboratory experiments and direct numerical simulations, funded by a European Research Council (ERC) grant entitled ‘Stratified Turbulence And Mixing Processes’ (STAMP) led by Prof Paul Linden. More recently, Adrien also developed an interest in the physics of decompression sickness with experiments using hydrogels to mimic soft body tissues.
