Research Faculty/Center for Atmospheric Sciences/Hampton University

Two research faculty positions are available in the Center for Atmospheric
Sciences (CAS) at Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia. The successful
candidates will conduct research and teach one course per semester. The
research is focused primarily on using middle-atmosphere satellite data from
the SAGE series and HALOE to study atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric
dynamics, radiative transfer, and global change. These experiments have
produced an extensive amount of aerosol, ozone, water vapor, halogen and
oxides of nitrogen data. The research will also include studies in
preparation for flight of the SABER experiment on the TIMED satellite
scheduled for the first quarter of 2000. SABER will make measurements of
the structure, chemistry, energetics, and dynamics over the altitude range
from 15 km to 180 km. More information can be obtained on the following Web
sites: SAGE II (http://arbs8.larc.nasa.gov/sage2/), SAGE III
(http://arbs8.larc.nasa.gov/sage3/), HALOE
(http://haloedata.larc.nasa.gov/home.html), and SABER
(http://asd-www.larc.nasa.gov/saber/ASDsaber.html). Candidates with
experience in the development and use of lidars and/or other remote sensors
and the analyses of their data will also be considered.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research
interests, and the names of at least three references to Ms. Theresa Ashe,
Center for Atmospheric Sciences, Hampton University, Box 6075, Hampton VA,
23668, or via e-mail to cas@hamptonu.edu.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have a Ph.D. in
atmospheric science, meteorology, or related fields. The positions are
full-time, temporary appointments for an initial period of two years, with
the possibility of renewal and tenure track. HU is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer.
