Education and skills

The focus of this topic is in education below university level and on skills training, which present the greatest challenges in the sub-region. A summary of the conclusions of the workshops is here.

Some of the issues were discussed at a preparatory meeting on 14 March 2011.

The first workshop, in late June 2011, brought together a group of experts to consider issues that will be important for education and skills in the sub-region in 2030.
A summary of its conclusions is here.
Materials from the workshop:
Tom Bletsoe's slides
Peter Gronn's script
Lynne McClure's slides
Rob Butler's slides and script
Colin Greenhalgh's closing remarks

The second workshop, on 28 September 2011, included councillors and officers of local authorities, members of residents associations, and people from business.
Materials from the workshop:
Martin Bacon's slides
Kim Walker's script
Alan Stevens's slides

Education and Skills was discussed also at a meeting at ideaSpace on 13 July 2011 of the Cambridge group of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). For notes from the meeting see here.

An Action Group met on 9 September 2011 and agreed various measures to bring schools and business closer together.
