Alternatively the intensity ratio of two forbidden lines from the same
ion could be used (IF/IF¢). A good example of this
type of diagnostic ratio occurs in the
transition region ion O IV. The 2s22p 2PJ -
2s2p2 4PJ¢, which fall at around 1400 Å have been used
to determine the electron density in the transition region.
