Research
Adrien is part of the Environmental and Industrial Fluid Dynamics research group and works in the G. K. Batchelor Laboratory. His current research focuses on the stratified shear flows taking place in an inclined duct connecting two reservoirs containing fluids at different densities. He is mainly interested in elucidating the stability, nonlinear waves, turbulent transition and mixing of such flows, with applications to ocean dynamics. More recently, he also developed an interest in the physics of decompression sickness experienced while SCUBA diving, using experiments on hydrogels that mimic soft body tissues.
Adrien is funded by a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Independent Research Fellowship entitled 'How does stably-stratified, shear-driven turbulence mix our oceans and estuaries?' whose goal is to better represent small-scale turbulence in large-scale flows of importance to our climate and society. He is also part a larger team effort in DAMTP that combines large datasets from laboratory experiments and direct numerical simulations, funded by a European Research Council (ERC) grant entitled ‘Stratified Turbulence And Mixing Processes’ (STAMP) led by Prof Paul Linden.
