An important aspect of the planning of CDS observations comes in the
designing of the `studies' to be run by the instrument.
Each CDS study is a sequence of commands to be sent to the
spacecraft, containing
pointings
exposure times
movements of the
mirror and/or the chosen slit
various telemetry instructions
(for example the specifications of the extraction windows for the NIS).
