Applications are welcomed for PhD studentships in the Astrophysics group, though the admission round for 2026 is now closed.

Numerous opportunities exist for research fellowships that can be held in, or in association with, the Astrophysics Group. These include:

• (Junior) Research Fellowships offered by Cambridge Colleges. Applications are typically due in October or November. These highly competitive positions are advertised on the web pages of individual Colleges.
• Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Ernest Rutherford Fellowship. (An internal selection process takes place within DAMTP before applications are sent to STFC.)
• Royal Society Newton International Fellowship, University Research Fellowship and Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship.
• Royal Astronomical Society Research Fellowship and Norman Lockyer Fellowship.
• Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Fellowship. (Available in a relevant subject area every few years.)
• Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Research Fellowship.
• Kavli Institute Fellowship.
